VRangers trek Chanderi Pinnacle Top on 15th Ngt - 16th April 2017

Although worth mentioning as the jewel in the crown of forts in the district of Raigad, there is no significant history attached to this fort. Near the caves on the fort are visible some remnants of fortification. This is the only sign to designate Chanderi as a fort. Chanderi is famous for water streams (in rainy season) and its difficult route (in all season).

About:

Chanderi is mentioned as one of the difficult treks due to its tricky turns in the forest and lengthy route. One can reach till the caves but from cave to till top is an amazing route. Here one needs to have rope help to cross the patches. From cave it will take one and half hour to reach the top.will reach the cave in the night itself by crossing dry waterfall route till the cave.

04.30 pm: Reach to Badlapur Station.

When the sun shines on green waters with green hillocks and gets kissed by clouds, you know you’ve found your paradise. The campsite overlooks the lake, the lush green valleys, hill tops, scenic views of surrounding and bewitching terrains of this place hypnotize the visitors in no time.

It is Located on the banks of River Pravara, Bhandardara (3000 ft) is a hill station nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range in Maharashtra. According to a legend, sage Agastya meditated here for a year. Pleased with his penance, gods blessed him with a stream of River Ganga, now known as River Pravara.

Bhandardara is crisscrossed by trekking trails and dotted with forts. The famous Mount Kalsubai, the highest peak in Maharashtra, is a favorite among trekkers. The trek to the 200-year-old Ratan gad is also popular as is the trek to sixth century Harishchandra gad.

This place is nested in the middle of mountains, the place is a delightful treat to your eyes and the panoramic view it offers is nothing less than bliss! You can just relax by spending time around the campfire and gaze at the night sky or you can be a part of few of the nature sharing activities.

• Day 1 –

Catch Kasara (N) Fast Train (Time table: CST: 2.25 pm, Dadar: 2.38 pm, Thane: 3.04pm, Kalyan: 03.23 pm).

16.35: Reach to Kasara and will move with Pvt Jeep to Campsite.

18.30 - Check in at the camp. Explore the area around campsite/ Relax.

19.00 - Evening snacks will be served and will have some fun games with born fire etc.

21.30 - Dinner will be served.

• Day 2 –

07.00- Wake up call and ready to have delicious B/F etc.

08.00 – Enjoy Archery & Boating with swimming etc.

10.30 - Check out form the camp.

VRangers Trek to Ratangad on 15th Ngt-16th Oct 2016

“Ratan” means jewel. Ratangad is known as the jewel fort. It is situated in dense forests of Kalsubai – Harishchandragad range and offers a very beautiful view from the top.

History:-

The fort is origin for the river Pravara / Amrutvahini . The Bhandardara dam is built on this river. Ratangad has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'; formed by natural erosion, it is big enough to accommodate a group  Of ten people and the view of the entire region from here is absolutely amazing. Ratangad was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle and was one of his favourites. The base village Ratanwadi has a beautiful Amruteshwar temple which is famous for its carvings.

The entry to the fort is through two ladders & the ladders are in poor shape. One of them has the railing of a complete side hanging, while the other has no railings for the last 5 rungs. Besides they are supported by apparently flimsy supports. And another entrance of the fort is called Tryambak darwaza, this is Main Entrance. The steep way down from the Tryambak darwaza are little risky. A chor darwaza ("Secret entrance") the fort lies below the walls. A water tank on top of the mountain. Ratangad had one of the largest rain water catchment areas for its day.

About:

Surgad or God's Fort in the north-east of the Roha taluka and eight miles east of Roha town consists of a long and exceedingly narrow spur running south from the range of hills which separates Roha from Alibag and Nagothana.

In February 1818 Surgad was taken, along with Avacitgad by Colonel Prother's force [Nairne's Konkan, 114; Pendhari and Maratha Wars, 208.]. Besides the building described above, there are several other small ruined houses. Local tradition ascribes the building of the fort to Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. From top you will have a great look of river Kundalika and mystique views of western ghat region.
