VRangers Sankshi fort & untouched kokankond waterfall camping on 10th & 11th March 2018

We VRangers Coming with New waterfall named as kokankond waterfall by local villager. This is one of the untouched small valley of sahyadri and untouched by trekkers.
Here we are going for Camping , it is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home in a shelter, such as a tent. Even we are going to do waterfall rappelling in small flow which is another most adventures part of the event.

Trek Name: Sankshi fort & camping @ Kokankond Waterfall with 120 ft rappelling.
Grade: Easy Trek
Fort Height: 800 ft
Location: Pen.
Duration: Two Day Event.

Sankshi Fort:
The name Sankshi is said to have been derived from a chief named Sank who is traditionally believed to have been the lord of the fort, also known as Badr-ud-din, or Darghaca Killa from a tomb or dargah of the saint Badr-ud-din at its foot, lies within the limits of Nidivali village about five miles north-east of Pen.

From the tomb or dargah the way to the fort runs, for about 300 yards along the eastern face of the hill. It then turns sharp to the right or south when the ascent begins through what must be the site of an old town. From here to the bottom of the scarp is a steady climb of about a quarter of a mile over loose stone boulders. At the foot of the scarp, a little to the left of the path-way about 240 feet above the tomb, comes the first of eight cisterns.
Kokankond waterfall:
This kokankond is in Pabal Khore Which lies in between Pen to Pali range. To reach waterfall we need to cross jungle for more than 1 hour with an waterfall route.
This waterfall consist two parts the one is “Chota Duke” nearly 120 feet and from here another 1.30 hrs to “Motha Duke” nearly about 450 feet.

As we are going to enjoy Chota duke waterfall Rappelling with open sky Camping.

10th March 2018:
Meeting Point:
06.50 am: At Dadar TT near Pritam Dhaba, will start moving to pen.
10.20 am: With an intro & Breakfast will reach to Sankshi base Village.
12.15 pm: Will reach to top of fort and will explore fort.
01.00 pm: Will have lunch at top.
02.00 pm: Will start moving towards pen.
04.00 pm: Will reach to Pabal khore and start trekking to Kokan kond waterfall.
05.30 pm: Will setup the tent and will get ready to cook the food for night.

08.30 pm: Ready for dinner.
10.00 pm: Good Ngt all.
11th March 2018:
 06.30 am: Wake-up call and get ready for exciting adventure.

08.00 am: Reach to waterfall area for Rappelling.
11.00 am: With an Adventure and waterfall fun with swimming will leave the place.
12.30 pm: Back to Base village with lots of memories.
02.30 pm: While traveling will do Lunch in hotel.
06.30 pm: Back to Dadar.

Tucked away in a remote corner of Ratnagiri District, Velas has recently opened the doors of its scenic backdrops to the world of tourism. This village is one of the first in India to practice eco-tourism through community participation, where it’s not just the run of the mill touristy attractions one can see, but also open themselves to an entirely different lifestyle experience!!!!!!!

Sights to visit:
Velas is the birth place of Nana Phadnis, one of the great prominent personalities in Maratha history. Due to the sea-shore Velas is an exciting place and it is situated near Bankot Bay. There is an old temple of Shri Bhairi- Rameshwar and in this temple all twelve months water is made available taking the benefit of favorable geographical conditions. A statue of Nana Phadnis is present outside his house. In Velas Mahalakshmi temple and Nana Phadnis house are the places to visit. Gokul-ashtami Festival is one of the important festivals in Velas.
Bankot’s Himmat Gadh:
Himmat Gadh, a fort situated at Bankot, also goes by the name of Bavankot Quila and has existed well before the time of independence. The story behind the name ‘Bavankot Quila’ is that long back, the tax collected from the farmers on this land equalled the sum of “bavan kot” or 52 crores!
The fort also serves as a memorial for Queen Victoria, with it also being known by the name of Fort Victoria. Rumor has it, that an underground passage also exists, but it’s very likely that it has been shut now. A well, worn dry over time, can also be found there.
Harihareshwar:
Dakshin Kashi is famous pilgrim place with ancient Shiv Temple and Kalbhairav Temple situated on the Dakshin Kashi. It also has a beautiful beach which is rocky on one side and a clean sand beach on the other side.

Rajmachi is a fort in Karjat region. There are two forts which were built by Shivaji Emperor during 17th century. It is a famous spot for trekking. It is a 17 km trekking distance from Lonavla. Rajmachi fort is a strategic fort overlooking Borghat (ghat between Mumbai and Pune) which was a historical trade route. Rajmachi peak has two fortified structures - the Shrivardhan fort and Manoranjan fort. Rajmachi can be reached by 2 ways, the tough route from Kondivide village near Karjat and the other easy but long way route from Lonavala.

Places to Visit:
1. Kal Bhairava temple is situated in the col between Shrivardhan and Manaranjan. Local inhabitants worship Kal Bhairava even today.
2. There are two Fortresses on Rajmachi – the taller one in the east is Shrivardhan fort and the other in the west is Manaranjan fort. Rajmachi is a unique fort having wide plateau on all sides of the twin fortresses.
3. The Buddhist caves on the western slope of Rajmachi plateau (at present known as Kondhane caves) were carved in the period around 200 BC. The existence of these ancient caves indicates that Rajmachi had been identified as an important place right from the Buddhist period.

The tentative itinerary for the Trek is as given below:
24th Ngt Feb 2018:
Meeting Point: Lonavala Station (Platform No 1 , Near Ticket Counter)
The journey starts with the Latur Express. People interested should catch this train from respective stations with ticket till lonavala station. (Please get your respected stations at least half an hour earlier, as there might be a long queue for the tickets).
Train Timings: - 22107-CSTM LATUR EXP
CST - 09.00 pm                 Dadar – 09.31 pm           Thane –09.34 pm
Kalyan – 09.51 pm         Lonavla –11.23 pm
With an intro will start walking till rajmachi village (approx 10 km) in the presence of Curved Moon.
Stay at Villager’s House, (carry Bedding / Sleeping Bag) and take rest.
25th Feb 2018:
Wake up at 7 am.
With an breakfast explore fort.
Will have Lunch in the village itself.
Start Descend towards Karjat Side by 02:00pm
Enroute visit Kondane caves
Reach Karjat by 7.00 pm.
