VRangers One day trek to Matheran-Garbett to Diksal waterfall on 05 Aug 2018


Overview
Matheran is a very famous hill station and a popular weekend gets a way for the Mumbaiites. There are many different hiking routes to reach the top. The most common is one by the motorable road from Neral, which can get very monotonous.Some other routes are via Peb Fort, via One tree hill...Garbett point route is relatively lesser known. It takes us through some breathtaking scenery, green farmlands, a lake, a plateau. The view from the plateau is magnificent! This route can be taken only during the monsoons since it has very few trees on the way and it could get really hot during any other season.

A proper two sided haversack to put all the things, So that one has hands free while trekking, id proof, approx 3 ltr water, Sunday Lunch, Torch with extra batteries, some snacks, Should wear good trekking shoes, full sleeve shirt/T-shirt & Full Pant, if you have any medical issue please carry your own medicine as we carry only First aid, carry some extra cloths.
Non-compulsory items but helpful:
Cap, Sunglasses, Woolen Jacket, Camera , Avoid wearing Gold and other jewelry  mosquito’s repellent, Electoral / Energy powder, 2 Lemon, & 2 plastic bags for weight distribution. (It’s totally self-responsibility to take care of things.)

VRangers Monsoon Special trek to Mirgad & Vyaghreshwar on 4 ngt. and 5 Aug 2018


Overview

Mahal Mirya Dongar is a village in the taluka of Pen in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. In 1962 Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj  attacked Mira Dongar ( 10 km directly from southeast Pen ) and raided Pen. But the Mughal defence held on. People of this village are living in very peaceful manner. This village having very proud history. Agriculture is the main profession of this village.

Mirya Mahal is the place located 6 miles to the southwest of the Pen in Raigad District area , historical evidences are mentioned when Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj fought with Mughals in the conquest of Dabhol , Maratha activities were resumed at the beginning of 1662. Shivaji attacked Namdar Khan, at Mira Dongar (6 miles south-east of Pen), and then raided the rich city of Pen. The Mughal defence was obstinate and Shivaji’s forces suffered a heavy loss killed and wounded. the place becomes heaven in monsoon and the surrounding area is perfect for one day outing.

The trek Mirgad to Vyaghreshwar is almost unknown and takes one to an ancient temple of Lord Shiva situated in a corner of Raigad district (near the town of Pen) in Konkan. The view from the temple is beautiful and one can even catch glimpses of the sea, if visibility permits. A huge waterfall flows near the temple in the monsoons. In other seasons, the tranquil surroundings of the temple bring peace to the mind. Mirgad & Ratnagad are the forts nearby with Pen being the closest town.

Tentative schedule:
  • 10.00 pm: Gather at Kasu Station and further move to Village.
  • 10.30 pm: Reach Nearest base Village.
  • 11.00 pm: Local home stay (Please come with Sleeping bag or Mat-Blanket).

VRangers one day trek to Visapur fort & Bhaje caves on 17th June 2018

Visapur Fort

Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort- Lohagad. It is the best monsoon trekking destinations near Mumbai. Within the fort are caves, cisterns of water, a decorated arch and old houses. These two roofless buildings surrounded by outer or veranda walls said to have once been Government offices. Balaji Vishwanath the first Peshwa of Maratha Empire Visapur fort was built much later than Lohagad .The ruins of a large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa’s palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temple dedicated to him scattered all over the place. Hanuman (Maruti) was likely the patron deity of Visapur fort.

Bhaje caves

Bhaje caves is a group of 22 rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC located in Pune district, near Lonavala, Maharashtra. Significant monument of art, architecture and history is a group of exquisite rock cut chambers at the valley of Indrayani River – Bhaja Caves. The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaje. It easily accessible location from Malavali Station Pune. It is one of the few places less crowded and worth visiting.

The journey starts with the Local Train / Express. People interested should catch this  train from respective stations with ticket till Malavli & meet at lonavala station. (Plz get your respected stations at least half an hour earlier, as there might be a long queue for the tickets).
