VRangers one day trek to Visapur fort & Bhaje caves on 17th June 2018

Visapur Fort

Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort- Lohagad. It is the best monsoon trekking destinations near Mumbai. Within the fort are caves, cisterns of water, a decorated arch and old houses. These two roofless buildings surrounded by outer or veranda walls said to have once been Government offices. Balaji Vishwanath the first Peshwa of Maratha Empire Visapur fort was built much later than Lohagad .The ruins of a large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa’s palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temple dedicated to him scattered all over the place. Hanuman (Maruti) was likely the patron deity of Visapur fort.

Bhaje caves

Bhaje caves is a group of 22 rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC located in Pune district, near Lonavala, Maharashtra. Significant monument of art, architecture and history is a group of exquisite rock cut chambers at the valley of Indrayani River – Bhaja Caves. The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaje. It easily accessible location from Malavali Station Pune. It is one of the few places less crowded and worth visiting.

ITINERARY:

Trek schedule: 
The journey starts with the Local Train / Express. People interested should catch this  train from respective stations with ticket till Malavli & meet at lonavala station. (Plz get your respected stations at least half an hour earlier, as there might be a long queue for the tickets).

For Mumbai Rangers:

Train Timings : Indrayani Express

CST – 05.35 am

Dadar – 05.45 am

Thane – 06.10 am

Kalyan – 06.30 am

Karjat– 07.10 am

Lonavla – 07.50 am

The rangers who are coming from Mumbai please catch the Lonavla Pune Shuttle which is at 8.10 am from Platform number 3 & get down at next station i.e. Malvali Station.

Meeting Point: Malvali Station at 8.45 am

Tentative schedule:

09.45 am: With breakfast & tea will move & Reach Bhaje Base Village.

10.00 am: Start Trekking by Jungle route

12.30 pm: Will Reach to top & explore surrounding of Visapur.

01.30 pm: Lunch & Rest.

02.00 pm: Start descends and Explore to bhaje cave.

05.00 pm: Bhaje Caves.

06.30 pm: Back to Lonavla.

Compulsory items:

(Rains showers are expected, so pack your bags accordingly.)
Min. 3-4 ltr Water, Lunch, torch with extra batteries & shawl or Woolen Jacket, a proper two sided haversack to put all the things, So that one has hands free while trekking, some snacks, Should wear good trekking shoes, full sleeve shirt/T-shirt & Full Pant, bedding.

"If you have any medical issue please carry your own medicine as we carry only First aid, carry some extra cloths."

Non-compulsory items but helpful:

Cap, Sunglasses, Camera , Avoid wearing Gold and other jewellery, mosquito’s repellent, Electoral / Energy powder, 2 Lemon, & 2 plastic bags for weight distribution. (It’s totally self responsibility to take care of things.)
