VRangers biking to Tapola-Mahabaleshwar-Sajjangad via Kaas on 18th Ngt -19- 20th Oct 13

After A long wait VRangers would like to introduce a new route for biking which will be having lots of nature scenes, Ghat bike ride, off road bike ride, thrilling sharp turns, monuments with historical places and fort etc……
Route: Panvel – Mangaon – Poladpur – Ambenali ghat – Mahabaleshwar – Tapola – via Gogave/Waki ghat –Kaas – Sajjangad - Satara – Khed shivapur – Lonavla – Khopoli – Panvel.

Total distance: Approx 630 km.
Max Bikes : 12 (No 4 wheeler`s).
Last Day to Reg:15th Oct 2013.
Places to be covered in Bike ride:
Mahabaleshwar :
It is a hill station situated in the Sayhadri range of Maharashtra state. It is situated about southwest of Pune at a distance of 115 kms and from Mumbai 285 kms. It is situated in Satara district at an altitude of 1372 m above sea level. Here we can see and enjoy cool mountain air, lush greenery, breathtaking valleys and Soaring Mountain peaks.
Panch ganga temple:
This place has it in the hindu mythology that the five rivers Krishna, Venna, Gayatri, Savitri and Koyna show their appearance in the form of five close springs and make their presence here.
Venna Lake:
You can enjoy boating, fishing and ponytail riding on the Venna Lake. There are many interesting stalls of entertainment where you can play games and indulge in some snacks.
Various Points:
The Kates point again gives you a spectacular view of the Krishna Valley from a different angle. The Elphinston point a few paces ahead gives a spectacular view of the Koyna and Sahyadri valleys. Down south to this point is the Hunter’s point which gives a splendid view of the Koyna Valley.
Move down a bit more and you come across something called the Arthur’s seat. This is the place that clearly demarcates the Konkan and Deccan territories in Mahabaleshwar by the barren deep Savitri valley to the left and a shallow valley to the right.

To the left on Arthur’s seat you have a series of steps that lead you to Tiger springs. This is where the River Savitri is supposed to emerge.
Monkey point and Savitri point:
Savitri point is one beautiful place to be. In fact I found this to be quite appealing – very little open space, not much crowd and then the Deep valleys were just inches from where we stood. It is actually a wonderful echo point. You get a resound of your voice after about five seconds!
Tapola (The Mini Kashmir) :
Also known as the Mini Kashmir of the west is a 25 km drive away from Mahabaleshwar. The drive is magnificent, with two rivers flowing around the high hills Koyna on one side and Solshi on the other. Both these rivers meet at Tapola. The dam is the biggest in Maharashtra - Known as 'Shivsagar'. The famous boat Club in Shivsagar is very popular for motor boats. One can enjoy boating here at nominal charges.
Kaas Platue :
It is nestled in Sahaydri (Western Ghats), 25 kms away from Satara, Maharashtra (Western Ghats). It is located between 1200 - 1400 meters / altitude app 1000m AMSL and is surrounded by hillside coming alive with millions of colorful flowers. Kaas pathar throughout the year is barren due to the porous laterite rock, but rains come and the plateau is covered in a multitude of flowers, which last till September end. Kaas pathar overlooks the lush evergreen forests that serve as a water catchment area of Koyna Dam, Chandoli National Park and Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary was recently declared as "Sahyadri Tiger reserve".With abundant rainfall, bright mountain sunshine and a high dew point, the lateritic table lands and gentle slopes of Kaas transform into riotous colored flower fields. This plateau is famous for its unique biosphere, high hill plateaus and grasslands. Kaas boost not only flowers like pink balsam, yellow sonki, purple karvi etc but also welcomes birds like Crested Buntings, Malabar Crested Larks, Oriental White-eyes, Bonelli’s Eagle.
Sajjangad:
It is located near the city of Satara, India. It is the final resting place of Sant Ramdas, a saint and social reformer in 17th century India (Born 1608). His teachings and works are read and followed by many people even today in the state of Maharashtra and Sajjangad is a popular place of pilgrimage.

VRangers Bike Trek to Shivneri & Chavand Forts on 26th-27th Feb 2011.

VRangers invites you for the two days bike trek to Shivneri & Chawand Forts along with Girijatmaj Ganpati at Lenyadri & Vigneshwara Ganpati at Ozhar.

Brief information about the Places:
Shivneri Fort :-
Shivneri Fort, a birth place of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (1627), is located at a distance of around 3 km from Junnar. Shahaji, father of Shivaji kept his wife Jijabai in this fort during her pregnancy, as the fort was unique and difficult to reach. It is easier to reach the fort by the normal road than to climb from the hills. One has to get through 7 doors before reaching the actual fort. This fort is a very big structure with a very good height. The old and beautiful 'Devi Shivai' temple is on the way. Name of ‘Shivaji’ was taken from the name of this goddess. Shivaji spent his childhood on this fort. He acquired all the skills and training on this fort which he used while establishing Swarajya. He learnt the early lessons of Swaraj on this fort. Kaman Take, Kadelot Tok, Koli Chouthara and Dongarmatha (the top of the fort) are the other attractions near the fort.
Chavand Fort :-
Medieval period Malik Ahmed founded the Nizam Dynasty in 1485. He was the first Nizamshah who acquired the fort of Chavand after the dissolution of the Bahmani Empire. The seventh Nizamshah was Second Burhanshah. His grandson Bahadurshah was imprisoned here in 1594. Bahadurshah was the nephew of Chandbibi, a renowned personality from the same period. She played an important role in helping him to achieve the throne. In 1636, Shahajiraje, father of Shivaji Maharaj, signed a treaty with the Moghals, in which the Moghals got Chavand. Shivaji Maharaj named the fort as "Prasannagad".
The fort Chavand is famous for its 7 water tanks. These tanks are aligned to each other.
they are as follows Brahmi,Maheshwari,Kaumari,Vaishanvi,Varahi,Indyayani,Chamunda.
On the North side of the fort, we can see man-made caves. It is said that a secret passage exists here which opens outside of the fort. This was believed to be a secret escape door. Towards the south side of the fort, we can see beautiful view of Kukadi river. Man-made caves & Temple of Goddess Chamunda other attraction of this Fort.
 Girijatmaj, Lenyadri :-
Girijatmaj Vinayak refers to the Ganesh as the son of Parvati. Girija is another name for Parvati and Atamaj means son. This is the only Ashtavinayaka temple that is built on a mountain and is set in a Buddhist cave temple.
You have to climb 283 steps to the Budhist cave-temple to pay obeisance to Ganesha. A local legend states that Goddess Parvati gave birth to Lord Ganesha here.
Vigneshwar, Ozhar :-

Lord Ganesha at Ozhar is known as Vigneshwara or the remover of all obstacles which he achieved by vanquishing the demon Vighnasura.
This temple was built in 1833. The special feature of this temple is its golden dome, said to have been gifted by Chimaji Appa, the younger sibling of Bajirao Peshwa. Don’t miss the beautiful garland of lights, known as ‘Deepmala’.
