Velas Biking & Tour with VRangers on 9th-10th Apr 2011.

After Successful execution of Mahabaleshwar and Shivneri-Chavand Biking, once again VRangers invites you for the two days tour to Velas via Shrivardhan Dist Ratnagiri.

Brief information:
Velas is the birth place of Nana Phadnis, one of the great prominent personalities in Maratha history. Due to the sea-shore Velas is an exiting place and it is situated near Bankot Bay. There is an old temple of Shri Bhairi- Rameshwar and in this temple all twelve months water is made available taking the benefit of favorable geographical conditions. A statue of Nana Phadnis is present outside his house. In Velas Mahalakshmi temple and Nana Phadnis house are the places to visit. Gokulashtami Festival is one of the important festival in Velas.

Bankot Fort:-
This fort is also called as Bankot fort, Victoria fort or Himmatgad. This fort is having square shape. Bankot lies at the foot of the Rocky head land in the extreme north of the district.

Harihareshwar – Dakshin Kashi :-
It is famous pilgrim place with ancient Shiv Temple and Kalbhairav Temple situated on the Dakshin Kashi. It also has a beautiful beach which is rocky on one side and a clean sand beach on the other side.

Shrivardhan Beach :-
White sands which spread for miles on either side – that is the beauty of the Shrivardhan beach. The expanse of the sea is a turquoise blue and there usually you will find some college kids playing football in the water. The shores are clean and the water shallow which makes it ideal for swimming.

Add the numerous other attractions like the daunting places of religious worship, exotic culinary spread (seafood to be particular), verdant pastures and bucolic lifestyles of the local fishermen and you have the best combination of an all-round tourist destination.

A history of Shrivardhan for over 200 years is replete with glorious tales of Maratha warriors and their hounding efforts to maintain the “Hindavi-Swaraj". The famous Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath was born here and was later chosen as the First Peshwa by the Maratha Ruler Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj. The Peshwa’s continued to rule the Maratha kingdom on behalf of the Kings for over a century till the British overtook them
